AUDREY GÁBOR

soprano

Biography

Australian-Hungarian soprano Audrey Gábor was born in Sydney where she completed her university studies and received a Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice) / Bachelor of Arts (Theatre and Performance) double degree. She continued her postgraduate studies in opera at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of Maree Ryan AM, Chair of Vocal and Opera Studies. During her time in Sydney, Audrey debuted as Mercédès in Bizet's Carmen in a gala concert version at the Sydney Opera House. Important roles include Susanna (Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro), Laetitia (Menotti: The Old Maid and the Thief), Amore (Gluck: Orfeo ed Euridice), Beth (Adamo: Little Women), Juno (Offenbach: Orphée aux enfers), La Paix (Campra: Tancrède) and Ernestine Hill (Boyd: Daisy Bates at Ooldea). Audrey was the inaugural recipient of the Hilda Mulligan M.B.E Singing Scholarship for Operatic Soprano and a two-time beneficiary of the Helpmann Family Fellowship for young artists.

Since then Audrey relocated to Hungary where she made her professional European debut at the Hungarian State Opera in Samu Gryllus' vocal theatre work, Two Women in the 2016-17 season. Her debut was also featured on the official cast recording released by OperaTrezor as part of the Hungarian State Opera's 200th jubilee.

In that same season, she sang her first Mimì (Puccini: La Bohème) and appeared as Berta (Rossini: Il Barbiere di Siviglia)  with the Müvész Symphony Orchestra under the baton of György Gulyás Nagy. She remained a soloist as part of the State Opera's tour program until the 2019 - 2020 season. As a freelancer, Audrey has enjoyed fulfilling collaborations with many ensembles in Budapest and regionally with the Szolnok, Alba Regia and Müvész Symphony Orchestras. Adding more roles to her repertoire with performances of Micaëla / Frasquita (Carmen), Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly), Despina (Così Fan Tutte), Serpina ( La Serva Padrona), Gilda (Rigoletto) just to name a few.

In 2022 -2023 she became a featured artist with the Andrea Rost Foundation performing the role of the Countess in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro with performances at the Solti Hall in Budapest and VeszprémFest.

Last season, Audrey received critical acclaim for her performance with the National Ballet of Györ in their premiere of Peer Gynt where she sang the role of Solveig. " ... To hear the opera singer Audrey Gábor's beautifully sung aria was uplifting and gave us all hope."

Audrey is proud to be a founding member of the Hungarian classical ensemble Trio Laudor featuring László Kéringer (tenor) and Orsika Pataki-Tóth (guitar/soprano).

On the concert platform, Audrey has broadened her repertoire with performances of works by J.S Bach, in the B minor Mass and the Coffee Cantata.

This coming season, Audrey will sing the role of Duemila in Katalin Szalai's new opera Interludi at the Chamber Opera Festival in Eger and is looking forward to performing several recital programs filled with music she loves.
